Synopsis & Process

This series explores the intertwined themes of time and decay through the fragmented aesthetics of imperfect 3D scans.

By integrating contemporary 3D scanning technology with the timeless look of film photography, "Artefacts" highlights the beauty found in distortion and the ageing process. These images feature young models and floral compositions that enact a Baroque aesthetic of memento mori, symbolic of time in and of itself.

Even in the digital realm, photography cannot escape the inevitable disintegration caused by endless JPEG compression. In contrast, 3D scanning and image making presents a unique opposition, even a threat to our understanding of this disintegration in that it serves as a building process.

The incomplete nature of 3D scans exhibits a decomposed aesthetic, a look we’ve aimed to embrace in digital editing, adding a layer of complexity to our interpretation of time and preservation.

The process was finalized by printing out the result in photographic paper, in a time-warp where old and new synchronize.
